Last week Forescout Research Labs and JSOF Research disclosed NAME:WRECK, a set of Domain Name System (DNS) vulnerabilities that have the potential to cause either Denial of Service (DoS) or allow Remote Code Execution (RCE) for tens of millions of Internet-connected devices.
Renowned DNS experts ThreatSTOP CEO Tom Byrnes and Farsight Security CEO Dr. Paul Vixie will share their unique insights on the discovery and what organizations can do to protect themselves in the first episode of a new live streaming series, “Two DNS Dudes with a ‘tude” on Thursday April 23rd at 12:30 PM PT/3:30 PM ET. You can catch it live here.
In this inaugural episode, “Implications of NAME:WRECK,” Byrnes and Vixie will provide a brief overview of NAME:WRECK and its security risks --and why they matter --as well as outline both short-term and long-term steps enterprises can take to protect their organizations. The 30-minute conversation will also include several demos, including a demo of this discovered vulnerability.
According to Byrnes and Vixie, the risks posed by this disclosure are significant, but can be avoided if organizations run their own local DNS server. “Nobody who operates their own local DNS server for their on-net clients, servers, and users, had anything to fear from last week’s NAME:Wreck fire drill,” said Vixie.
